Our Team

Paul Chappell, Founder

When we say team, it’s just me. Unless we get into the whole duality argument and then we can say it’s my body and my mind but… that’s for another pub session.

I came up with the idea for Publosophy when I was having a beer thinking about how nice it would be to chat to someone about philosophy who was as equally curious as I was… and who also liked a Guinness or a nice glass of red. Wasn’t any more complicated than that. It seems I wasn’t alone in thinking about that idea. From day one I’ve been blown away by the number of people in Newcastle who want to meet for a drink and nut out the meaning of life. It might take a few pints… but we’ve got plenty of time to do it!

I’m a Lambton local, live with my wife and two kids (12 + 8) and two bernadoodle dogs.
I’ve had a passion for philosophy since primary school when a teacher introduced a few mind-bending questions like: “If a tree falls in a forest and nobody is there, does it make a sound?”
I scoffed… “Derr, of course it does.” But when asked how did I know, and I couldn’t think of an answer, I was hooked. (My answer is humans aren’t the only animals able to hear so ask the squirrels).
